For families · Kids mode

A calmer YouTube for your kids.

Set up Houndeye Kids mode to turn your child's browser into a calmer YouTube. You decide which videos are allowed, the system keeps AI content out of sight, and no changes will happen unless you enter your PIN.

$5 a month or $30 a year · the first 14 days are free

The latest Houndeye release includes Kids mode and sets up automatically. Chrome, Edge and Firefox are currently evaluating it.

Getting started

Set up in three steps.

  1. 1

    Start your free trial

Sign up for free using your email to begin the 14-day trial. You will need to provide a card, but we do not charge you until the trial period is over.

  2. 2

    Link your child's browser

Setting it up is quick. You install Houndeye on the child's browser and connect it using the 6-digit code found in your dashboard. Expect about a minute of work for each computer.

  3. 3

Pick their age and lock it

Select the appropriate age range and tweak settings as desired, then secure everything with a PIN. Any edits you make afterward will arrive in their browser within a few minutes.

What Kids mode does

You choose. Houndeye keeps it that way.

Only the channels you approve

Houndeye gives you control over which YouTube channels your kids can access. You might begin with pre-made lists of popular children's channels or create a custom one by adding specific ones yourself. If your child uses the “Ask to watch” feature, you decide whether they can view that content by choosing yes or no.

YouTube's safety switches, locked on

Restricted Mode stays active, and content aimed at adults is filtered out. You have the option to turn off Shorts along with comments and video suggestions. This also allows you to stop topics from appearing if they are not suitable for your child.

AI videos and the rest of the web

AI videos stay out of sight, and you can block entire AI channels. The setup also handles safe search on Google and Bing, any websites you want to stop showing up, and mature streams on Twitch.

You stay in the loop

Check the details Houndeye captured in each child's browser. If your child wants to watch a specific thing, we send an email and you respond through the dashboard. You'll also hear when a connected browser stops being active.

Starting points by age

Start from their age.

Age ranges serve as a baseline, not a rulebook. You can adjust every setting to match your specific child's needs.

Questions

Questions parents ask.

Does it work in the YouTube app on phones and tablets?

No. Houndeye is a browser extension, which means it runs on computers and Chromebooks within the Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers. It cannot modify the YouTube app on phones, tablets, or TVs. For those devices, you should rely on YouTube's built-in parental controls instead.

Can my child switch it off?

Houndeye alerts you when a linked browser goes quiet. This matters because a determined child might find ways to remove the extension or switch to another browser. For safety, your Settings are locked with a PIN.

What happens when a video isn't allowed?

When a child encounters the video, they see a brief note along with an “Ask to watch” button. We email you about it, and your dashboard lets you approve the channel, accept only that specific video, or deny the request.

What does Houndeye keep about my child?

Houndeye gathers a few specific pieces of information: the user's first name or chosen nickname, their age bracket, which AI videos were detected in the browser, and any watch requests made. The platform never collects their watch history. All of this is detailed in the privacy policy, including exactly how long each item remains stored.

Which browsers does Kids mode work in?

The update currently works on Windows, Mac and Chromebook when you use Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Firefox support follows as soon as its store approves the update.

How do I cancel?

Head to Plan & billing whenever you are ready to stop. Exiting during the free trial means zero cost to you. The free Houndeye remains active following cancellation. After thirty days, your family's records and your children's details are deleted.
